Biography
The Chamber choir was founded at the initiative of His Eminence Metropolitan Dabrobosnian Mister Nikolaj, in the academic 2001/2002 year, at the Department of Church Music and Chanting, Academy of Music in Serb Sarajevo, and Rade Radović, M.A. in Music, was elected to be the Choir's conductor. As well the students from that department, the students from other departments (Musical Pedagogy, Piano, Accordion, Solo-Singing, Guitar, Flute) are also included in work of the choir on voluntary basis. Besides the original, basic role of taking part in divine services and liturgies, the aim of the Choir is also an academic presentation of Orthodox church music on concert scene. In that context, the Choir presented itself on a few concerts and also taking part in different manifestations in BiH and Serbia and Montenegro. Before all, there should be mentioned concert in Banja Luka, held in December 2002, and the annual concert held in Great Orthodox Church in Sarajevo, june 2003. On that concert, at the suggestion of His Eminence Metropolitan Dabrobosnian Mister Nikolaj handed the Choir a Gramata ''for an unselfish spiritual contribution and loyalty to the Holy Orthodox Faith'' The Choir also appeared at festival ''Sarajevska zima'' in Sarajevo, March 2004, and had a concert. The choir has also made efforts in the field of profane music at the manifestation ''Vlado Milosevic's Days'', where it was presented with work of proffessor Valentina Cvijetic, through which it established a significant cooperation with the female singing group ''Rusalke''.
Besides the concerts, ther Choir has had a significant success at competitions and festivals. From this biographical field must be mentioned Choir's participation at Festival of Spiritual Music ''Choirs among Frescoes'' in Belgrade (June – July 2003), where the Choir's performance leaves the audience breathless and it wins the first prize ''Vojislav Ilić'' for authentic performance of spiritual music. In May 2003, the Choir entered the competition ''May Music Festivities'' in Bijeljina, and won second prize - silver medal in category of mixed choirs.
The Choir's repertoire is really divers and difficult and mostly based on pearls of Serbian and Russian orthodox spiritual music. In this academic year, it was enriched with some compositions from the older layer of orthodox spiritual music - actually middle aged unison and two-voiced chants. The Choir can also commend itself with first performance of two extracts from composer Vojin Komadina's ''Opelo jasenovačko''.
In year 2003, the Choir gets its first CD, made by common efforts of both conductor and members. The compositions on the CD are recorded in an architecturally perfect building for ferforming spiritual music, actually in its natural ambient. As a bonus, there are also a few pieces recorded at, already mentioned, festival ''Choirs among Frescoes''.
With Our Lord's help, the Choit will in future period try and make efforts to contribute the keeping and development of rich heritage of orthodox spiritual music.
